The most anticipated, “I am a Sailor” call, confirms that a Navy recruit has passed boot camp’s final evolution earning the title of United States Sailor.
Recruit training is approximately 8 – 10 weeks long and includes physical fitness, seamanship, firearms, firefighting, and shipboard damage control. There are lessons in Navy heritage and core values, teamwork, and discipline. The training is challenging but highly rewarding.

Military training aims to instill and reinforce the Navy’s Core Values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment with the basic skills of training in a team environment. Recruits are academically, physically, and emotionally challenged. RTC will prepare you for life in the Navy.
As a Navy veteran, boot camp memories and the final accomplishment of being ‘capped’ a Sailor are as vivid today as they were, well, many years ago. Please enjoy a tribute to your new Sailor. “I am a Sailor Celebration.” is a compilation of training events.
